Fit at 55-Plus

Maintaining a normal height/weight ratio is a major concern for most Americans – or at least it should be. Too many people ignore the shape of their body, eating and drinking whatever they wish. Most people have developed a system of their own to lose weight. They have not yet discovered how to keep the weight off permanently. Nancy Mitchell and Laura Mordaunt have developed a weight-loss program and are writing a book titled “Fit at 55-Plus: Weight Loss and Fitness for the Rest of Your Life.” Based on the Bragg Healthy Lifestyle, the book takes concepts from written words to reality. Nancy and Laura have successfully lost weight, maintained that loss, and are encouraging family and friends to follow the program. Although the book is aimed at those over the age of 55, its concepts can be applied to overweight adults of any age.
“Fit at 55-Plus” is aimed at those baby-boomers now approaching retirement with an ever-expanding figure. It is a five-step program that requires no pills, medications, shakes, powders, or single-food diets. Counting calories and weighing food are not necessary. Excessive physical exercise is not a requirement. This program does require awareness and dedication; it requires having a vision and working toward it every day. It requires that you ignore social and cultural messages to listen to the needs of your body. The most important concept of this program is choice. You must exercise your power of choice to guide your body back to a healthful, balanced state.

The most important quality of the Fit at 55-Plus Fitness Plan is that it is a fasting program that can be followed for life. The plan for maintaining weight loss is not that much different from the plan for losing weight. The four qualities of a life-long eating plan are that it be reasonable, pleasurable, convenient, and affordable.

Reasonable. Each of us has a different lifestyle involving a balance of work and leisure, and the weight loss plan reflects this lifestyle. It will take into consideration food preferences, cultural traditions, marriage and other living arrangements, education, cooking skills, occupation, emotional needs and psychological stresses.
Pleasurable. Do you like Chinese food? Mexican food? By all means, include them in your program. Like to eat out? Factor that into your plan. The goal of becoming a healthy person is to enjoy life, and eating is a part of life.
Convenient. The weight loss maintenance plan you chose should correlate closely with the weight loss plan you have selected. Fad diets do not lead to successful maintenance plans. Therefore your weight loss and weight loss maintenance plan must be ones you can live with for the rest of your life.
Affordable. Your life-long weight maintenance plan should be affordable. Distilled water is not expensive; neither are honey and natural apple cider vinegar. Fasting is one of the least expensive ways to gain energy - it gives you energy by allowing the body time to process food completely and eliminate what is necessary before the next onslaught of food arrives. And truthfully, your grocery bills will go down!

Fit at 55-Plus is currently being edited. We are looking for volunteers to participate in our health program that is focused on fasting and natural apple cider vinegar. The above document is a synopsis available as a PDF or HTML file which we encourage you to download and read. If you are interested in being a part of our book, please contact Nancy at nancyr@thegrid.net or Laura at laura@mordaunt.org.
