DISCLAIMER: I don't own the West Wing or related characters. Suing me would
amount to debt seeing as how I have nothing and legal fees are monumental
these days. "So Help Me Girl" is a song by Joe Diffie, or so I'm told, and is
not mine.
NOTES: AJ gave me this song to do a songfic with, and so here it is. I hope I
did it well, AJ, cause it's for you.
SUMMARY: He and She . . .
You could have kissed me like this wasn't gonna last
Kept me from sayin' something I'll never take back
You could have held me like there was no chance
Of me waking up where I am
You could have stopped short of every dream I've ever had
From across the large room, he watched her intently. She was more
beautiful than anyone he'd ever seen before. Every time she moved or laughed,
his heart lilted a little in joy. In all the time that he'd known her, his
heart never stopped longing for her every second of every day. It was like
they were meant to be.
There had been rough times between them, that was for sure. However in
the end, fate would not let them be apart for long. They knew each other,
they felt each other. They were meant to be no matter what. No matter how
pig-headed he got, no matter how pushy she became, they would stay together
through thick and thin. They were in love. They always had been and they
always would be.
Granted, when they first met, the sparks weren't exactly there, but as
time went on, and they saw more of each other, hope for love turned into love
itself. Instead of worrying about rejection from the other, they worried
about showing enough love from their own heart.
So help me girl, you've gone too far
It's way too late to save my heart
The way it feels each time we touch
I know I've never been so loved
And I can't help myself, so help me girl
And so every time her eyes met his, he knew he couldn't take it any
more. But he had to. His job required him to stand in one spot, be nice to
those who are talking to you, and under no circumstances do you cross the
room, grab your wife's arm and find a room in which you can show her how you
feel. That was not part of the job description. Therefore he had to stand
there with fake smiles.
Oh, how he loved her. It was an amazing fire within his soul, a fire
that he'd never known until he met her gaze. It felt like such a long time
ago, and yet even then, after time, she'd taken him into her heart and his
life was so much better than it had been. She'd saved his life before he'd
ever known that it was in danger. She saved him just with the touch of her
hand.
You had to be there when that old sun came up
Makin' last night feel like a vision of things yet to come
You just had to hold me like nobody else
Now look what you've gone and done
You had to love me till I just can't get enough
Her love was real. That much he could always be certain of. He smiled
one last time at the icky politician and then made his way across the room,
an almost goofy grin upon his face. His wife saw him coming and tried very
hard not to return the smile. It was just something that he did to her;
whenever she saw him smiling, she had to smile too. They had been together
through so much, it almost felt like they were the same person. She had been
the person he needed to get through the hard times, and he had been the one
to hold her when she needed to be held. They were perfect for each other, and
they loved each other that much.
Sometimes he wondered if she had put a spell on him or something.
Maybe she'd waved a magic wand and made him fall head over heels in love with
her, fallen so far that he would never climb out again. Not that he wanted to
either. She was the only woman he would ever love, the only woman he ever
wanted to love. There had been others before her, sure, ones that had stolen
his heart and broken it, but this woman . . . She was the one that made his
life complete. His job didn't matter; his friends hardly mattered . . . She
was the only thing that mattered.
Well, his job did matter, quite a bit in fact, and so did his friends,
but his wife . . . she was the one that meant more to him than life itself.
So help me girl, you've gone too far
It's way too late to save my heart
The way it feels each time we touch
I know I've never been so loved
And I can't help myself, so help me girl
From the moment he met her, he loved her, even though at the time, he
could have sworn he despised her. Ever since he met her, she'd stolen his
heart. Nothing could save it after she got it within her grasp. He knew that
he would never feel a love like that, not with the same power, not from
anyone else. Every time she touched him, lightening sped through his veins
and he was alive.
She knew it too. She knew that with every breath he took, every smile
he gave her, he was thinking of her. She knew that he had his love and
devotion. She knew that he belonged to her and that she belonged to him. They
were a pair and they always would be. They'd stolen each other's hearts. They
shared a mutual love, and that love kept them both going.
So help me girl, you've gone too far
It's way too late to save my heart
The way it feels each time we touch
I know I've never been so loved
And I can't help myself, so help me girl
When the evening was over, he led her into the bedroom they shared and
kissed her softly on the neck. Words didn't have to be spoken; they both knew
that they had been in each other's thoughts all night long. As she felt his
hands move around her waist, she leaned back into his touch.
"I love you, Jed." She whispered. He smiled and kissed her neck again.
"I love you too, Abigail." He replied softly before turning her in his
arms and kissing her deeply, pulling her close as if he could never let go of
her again. He never wanted to let go of her again.
