Title: A Simple Answer

Feedback: When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza
pie, that's feedback.
Disclaimer: Not mine, which is proved by the demented
dialogue.
Notes: Sequel to 'A Serious Question', because I'm a
dork and I didn't want to leave it with an angsty
ending. This may be a little hard to follow if you're
not completely insane, so read on at your own peril.
Josh POV, by the by.
********************
Yes. I look up from my work to see Donna standing in
the doorway.
Yes?
Im answering you.
I raise my eyebrows. Thats quite a feat, considering
I havent asked a question.
No, but you were about to, and I think I can safely
say that my answer would have been yes. She
isnt...this cant possibly be what it sounds like.
Donna-
Unless, of course, you were planning on asking me to
bring you coffee.
I wasnt-
Good, because I would have been forced to hurt you.
In the interest of tough love, you understand. I gawk
at her for a moment, afraid Im misinterpreting.
Im confused.
Yeah. She closes the door behind her and walks
towards my desk, her face unreadable.
Youre giving me an answer to a question I havent
asked?
Im efficient that way.
So Ive noticed. I stand and walk around to the
other side of the desk, looking at her carefully.
Donna, its almost two oclock in the morning.
What does that have to do with anything?
Sleep deprivation and caffeine, remember?
Im not saying yes because Im tired, Josh. Im
saying yes because...because thats my answer.
Your answer to a question you dont know. I just
want to be clear on this.
Yeah, she almost whispers. I meet her eyes and the
look I find there makes me shiver. In a good way.
Its a serious question, Donna.
I think you mentioned that.
Im saying that you didnt just agree to wash my car
or anything. Its serious. I reach out and push a
strand of hair behind her ear.
I already said yes, Josh.
Whatevers going on with Toby is about to blow, and I
have a bad feeling-
Theres nothing we can do about that. She has a
point. I smile and lean forward slightly. So, if I
were to ask the question right now youd say yes?
The odds are in your favor.
What kind of odds are we talking about, here?
She chuckles lightly and steps closer. Josh-
Im just curious cause, well, Id like to know
whether- Then her lips are on mine, and it really
doesnt matter what the odds were. I have my answer.
She pulls away and I grin.
So its true, huh? I ask. I may be smirking.
Whats true?
I never thought you were capable of such a deed.
Truthfully, Im ashamed of you.
What the hell? Her eyes narrow in confusion.
Such immoral behavior. At least you confessed your
crimes.
Confessed?
I feign ignorance. You just said yes. In fact, you
said it a number of times.
Josh-
Really Donna, how could you do that to poor Roger?
Are you trying to tell me that...Oh God. She looks
like she doesnt know whether to laugh or run and
hide.
My question? I just wanted to know if you really had
framed Roger Rabbit. Apparently you decided I meant
something else. I laugh at her horrified expression.
I just...I thought... she babbles, blushing wildly.
Donna? I try to get her attention, but shes too
wrapped up in her embarrassment.
I cant believe I...
Yes.
Huh?
Im giving you my answer. Yes.
Youre giving me your answer?
Yes.
Yes, yes youre giving me your answer, or yes, yes is
my answer?
Both. My head is spinning. I dont know whether the
cause is her verbal gymnastics or the fact that she
just kissed me.
Oh.
Arent you going to ask what the question is?
Im still confused about the answer.
Yes.
Yes Im confused, or yes is your answer?
Donna!
Its two oclock in the morning! What do you want
from me?
Besides the obvious?
Josh! She hits my arm, but I think I see a hint of a
smile.
Its two oclock in the morning, Donna. Forgive me if
Im a little punchy.
She sighs in exasperation and collapses on the couch.
After a moments contemplation I sit next to her.
What are we talking about? she murmurs after a short
silence.
Questions and answers.
You said yes, and I said yes.
I nod. Ye- I mean, right.
So what were the questions?
You want the Cliffnotes version?
Please. I take her hand and hold it tightly in my
own. She looks at me, then down at our entwined hands.
Oh.
Oh?
Oh, I think I get it.
Good. Can you explain it to me?
She grins. With pleasure."
